Welcome to Old Dogs Rock — where a love for dogs (especially the old) meets music, nostalgia and laughter

ABOUT OLD DOGS ROCK
We celebrate dogs and music with our whole hearts here. We’re visual storytellers across musical genres with a huge sense of humor—drawn to new sounds, collabs, and how music evolves. We get excited about music in a way that demands a creative outlet, and this platform is exactly that for us. In honor of our sweet namesake Rocky, who passed in 2024 from Canine Cognitive Dysfunction (CCD), we share occasional, non-medical tips and information to help others spot the signs. Thanks for visiting our little creative corner full of dogs, new and old tunes, nostalgia, and a sprinkle of CCD awareness

🎶 The Black Keys
In the photo above, you’re looking at the heart of The Black Keys — Dan Auerbach on guitar and vocals (left), and Patrick Carney on drums (right). Just two guys… but together, they’ve built such an amazing modern blues-rock sound.
Their story starts in Akron, Ohio, where Dan and Patrick first met as teenagers. They ran in different circles at first — Dan more laid-back and musically immersed, Patrick a bit more outspoken — but music became the bridge that brought them together. By 2001, they decided to start recording in Patrick’s basement, working with whatever equipment they had, figuring things out as they went. No big plan. No industry backing. Just instinct, grit and a shared love for raw, stripped-down sound.
That DIY beginning became their signature. Early recordings were gritty, unpolished and full of soul — the kind of music that feels lived-in rather than produced. What makes their story so powerful (and why we connect to it so much) is that nothing about it was manufactured. It was built — slowly, honestly — from two people who simply kept showing up, playing louder and trusting their sound. And somehow, all these years later… it still feels just as real.
We’ve included their new song “You Got to Lose” below — a glimpse into what’s coming next… go take a listen.
🎵 What We’re Listening To
🎶 The Black Keys — “You Got to Lose”
Released February 6, 2026, “You Got to Lose” doesn’t ease its way in — it struts. There’s a loose, gritty swagger to it that feels like it wandered out of a smoky bar, grabbed your hand and pulled you straight onto the dance floor. It’s raw, bluesy, a little mischievous… and unmistakably The Black Keys.
At the heart of it all are the two longtime bandmates who’ve built this sound from the ground up:
Dan Auerbach — vocals, guitar, producer, sonic architect of that signature fuzzy groove
Patrick Carney — drums, rhythm backbone and the pulse that keeps everything moving
Together, they’ve always had this chemistry that feels effortless but hits hard — a stripped-down duo that somehow sounds massive.
“You Got to Lose” is the first taste of their upcoming album “Peaches!”, set to release May 1, 2026 — and if this track is the tone-setter, this album isn’t about sitting still… it’s about movement. It leans into rhythm, into groove, into that almost honky-tonk-meets-blues-rock energy that makes you want to get up whether you planned to or not.
And the way they’re rolling this album out? It’s very them — and honestly, kind of genius.
Instead of traditional promo, The Black Keys have been throwing dance parties in real, lived-in places — including the now-iconic Hernando's Hideaway, where the “You Got to Lose” video was filmed. This isn’t a polished, staged performance… it’s sweaty, crowded, full of life. People dancing, laughing, moving — exactly how this music is meant to be experienced.
It feels intentional. Like they’re saying: don’t just listen to this album… live inside it.
The band has shared that this era is about reconnecting with the joy of playing and the physical feeling of music — not overthinking it, not polishing it too much. Just letting songs breathe, letting grooves carry you, and bringing people together in real spaces again.
And you can feel that in this track. There’s a looseness here. A confidence. A reminder that sometimes the best music isn’t perfect — it’s alive.
There’s also something very human about The Black Keys’ journey… they started as two guys recording in basements in Akron, Ohio, never chasing trends — and here they are, years later, still doing things their own way… now just with bigger rooms, louder speakers and entire dance floors following their lead.
💥 What We’re Watching (Video Attached)
🔥 “You Got to Lose”
Filmed inside Hernando’s Hideaway, this video feels less like a production and more like you accidentally walked into the best night of your life.
Boots on the floor. Lights low. Music loud.
No pretending — just movement, rhythm and pure vibe.
❤️ Why It Matters to Us
This isn’t just a song drop — it’s an invitation.
The Black Keys are reminding us what music is supposed to do…
Bring people together.
Get us out of our heads and into the moment.
Make us move, laugh, connect.
And honestly?
We love the idea of a band turning an album rollout into a series of real-life dance parties. That’s the kind of energy we’re here for. That’s the kind of energy Old Dogs Rock lives for.
We’ll be watching this one closely… and if a dance party pops up anywhere near us —
we’re going.
