Welcome to Old Dogs Rock — where a love for dogs (especially the old) meets music, nostalgia and laughter

ABOUT OLD DOGS ROCK
We celebrate dogs and music with our whole hearts here. We’re visual storytellers across musical genres with a huge sense of humor—drawn to new sounds, collabs, and how music evolves. We get excited about music in a way that demands a creative outlet, and this platform is exactly that for us. In honor of our sweet namesake Rocky, who passed in 2024 from Canine Cognitive Dysfunction (CCD), we share occasional, non-medical tips and information to help others spot the signs. Thanks for visiting our little creative corner full of dogs, new and old tunes, nostalgia, and a sprinkle of CCD awareness

🎵 What We’re Listening To
🎶 5 Seconds of Summer — Everyone’s A Star
Released on November 14th, Everyone’s A Star marks the sixth studio album from Australian pop-rock band 5 Seconds of Summer—a group that went from posting high-school YouTube covers to selling out arenas worldwide. What began as four teens playing guitars in their bedrooms has become a decade-long evolution of sound, humor, and unapologetic heart.
Meet the Band
Luke Hemmings – lead vocals, guitar, keys
Michael Clifford – lead guitar, vocals, keys
Calum Hood – bass, vocals, keys
Ashton Irwin – drums, percussion, vocals
Formed in Sydney, the band first gained major attention through their cover videos — long before streaming numbers defined success. Their breakout moment came when One Direction invited them on tour, skyrocketing them from local stages to global fame. Early on they were packaged beside boybands… which makes the new track “Boyband” feel hilariously self-aware. It’s a wink at their past with enough meme-energy to fuel synchronized hair flips across the whole internet.
💥 Standout Tracks We’re Loving
🎧 “Not OK”
An instant earworm.
That hook — “Hey I’m not OK, I like the darker side of me…” — digs in deep and refuses to leave.
It’s punchy, dramatic, and full of the self-reflective angst that 5SOS does best.
(And yes… “Bite the apple, baby” is absolutely living rent-free in our heads.)
💗 “No. 1 Obsession”
This one swept us up from the first drum hit. The lyrics read like poetry wrapped in sunshine:
Crush me with the sunshine of your heart
Shine a light on all my darkest thoughts
Take me to heaven, kill the depression
Make me your number one obsession
Warm, vulnerable, and oddly uplifting — we love it.
💃 “Evolve”
Electronic, flirty, falsetto-layered, and begging to be remixed at full volume.
DJs… if you’re listening… this track is practically announcing itself as your next project.
🎪 “Everyone’s A Star” (5 Second of Summer Video attached)
Since storytelling is part of our DNA at Old Dogs Rock, this song instantly sparked a whole world in our imagination.
We pictured a moody vintage circus tent, heavy velvet curtains, lions and tigers sitting politely, a bearded lady, clowns in mismatched colors, and a ringmaster with a twirled mustache — all gathered to watch the beginning of a love story.
Not a romantic, heart-tugging kind, but a love story about craft and courage.
Two new trapeze artists step into this strange family of performers, wobbling through their first routine. As the song plays, they learn the art — timing, trust, rhythm — high above the sawdust floor. By the final chorus, the spotlights blaze, the crowd rises, and their once-shaky stunt becomes perfection. Even the animals are watching. Even the bearded lady cheers.
It’s a visual that captures exactly what the song says: everyone has a spark, and everyone fights to earn their moment in the light.
🪨 “The Rocks”
A slower, aching track soaked in vulnerability.
Isolation, longing, connection — it’s all here.
It’s the kind of song that whispers a reminder:
The moments we want to retreat are often the moments we need someone the most.
Let it be your little lifeline — reach out. You matter.
❤️ Why It Matters to Us
The album title — Everyone’s A Star — feels like a philosophy.
A reminder that we all get to evolve, redefine ourselves, laugh at the boxes we once lived in, and shine without asking permission.
And while this album is the newest chapter, we’re longtime fans of earlier favorites like “Youngblood,” “Empty Wallets,” “Complete Mess,” “Teeth,” “Ghost of You,” and “Lover of Mine.” These new songs feel like a continuation of that growth — louder confidence, deeper emotion, and a little more sparkle.
🐾 At Old Dogs Rock, we’re all about music that celebrates resilience, humor, heart… and the four-legged friends who sit beside us for every song played.
So press play on Everyone’s A Star, give your pup a hug, and let this album remind you:
you’ve got your own spotlight waiting — step into it.
